Mission Accomplished

Today was a major success as the meeting with the other team to discuss reviewing my code went well. Thankfully they agreed to let me go forward with implementing additional functionality to a current library to avoid having to do a messy workaround for my project. Unfortunately it's probably going to take weeks to get approved since it needs to be properly linked up and extensively tested, but it seems that I've done my part or most of it for this chunk of the project.

I was in a pretty good mood after the meeting went well. I was also still happy about the fact that I was able to bike to Masa with my team for lunch and back for the meeting without much trouble. I feel embarrassed now that I thought riding a bike was hard. I'm still nervous when cars go by though.

I also got to go to my first TGIF in person, which was awesome (and insanely crowded). Unfortunely I can't discuss anything about what went on during it. I did, however, manage to get a front row seat by crafting up a plan to hang around close to the seats reserved for people with disabilities since I figured not all of them would be necessary. I was right and got an awesome seat close to the podium as a result. I got to sit about 15 feet from Larry and the presenters. Thanks to Google Views, you can see what it looks like in Charlie's before the swarm of Googlers show up for TGIF.

Afterwards I decided to bike back to my building. Unfortunately the bike I took (since most of them were taken by Googlers leaving TGIF) had no handbrakes. It did have backpedaling to brake but I prefer the handbrake to slow down for safety. I felt pretty daring and rode the whole way back anyway, although the only issue was when my foot slipped off one of the pedals and I had to stop myself with my feet to fix the problem.

Later I was able to send out another 2 CLs and get them approved to boot. So now I have officially contributed code to Google's codebase. It's not much since I'm doing it in small chunks to go through the review process faster, but I plan to send out a couple more tomorrow. I feel like I finally am unstuck and actually getting somewhere after almost 4 weeks here.

To conclude this awesome day, I got to eat Mongolian food for the first time for dinner (which was pretty good), and got to see the new Jurassic World movie with my team for the 11 PM showing (or 2 AM for the folks back home). We didn't see it in 3D like the last movie but it was still good. This was the first theater I've seen to have comfy reclinable seats. Not sure if that's a common thing, but besides Mad Max I haven't been to the movie theater since probably that one time I saw that Narnia movie 10 years ago.

The comfy seats made the 30 minutes of previews before the actual movie significantly less annoying.

Tomorrow will be my last day at Googleplex. I'm not really sure what is left to do as a visitor but I'll figure something out. Maybe we'll remember to book the conference bike and take that contraption out for a spin.
